BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO REMOVE U3 PLEASE BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA MAC OS 10.4 and 10.5 supported Download the U3 Cruzer Utilities for Mac by clicking the following link and save it to your Desktop:
Cruzer Utilities
1) Find the file named "cruzer-utilities-mac.dmg" on your Desktop and double click it.
2) Double click the Cruzer Utilities installer.pkg file.
3) Follow the installation wizard to complete the installation 4) When prompted to Restart, click the Restart button.
5) Once the computer has fully restarted, double click on your hard drive, and then double click on the Applications folder, then the Utilities folder.
6) Inside the Utilities folder will be a SanDisk Cruzer folder, double click it.
You will see three applications:
Launchpad Removal Utility for MAC - removes the U3 LaunchPad.
Password Enabler-Disabler - allows you to use the Security feature of U3 to lock the drive and prevent unauthorized access.
Password Change - allows you to change the Security password that locks the drive.
There will also be a removal tool to uninstall the Cruzer Utilities which should only be used if you want to remove the three applications.
SEE BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE EACH UTILITY
U3 Launchpad Removal
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP ANY DATA THAT IS ON YOUR FLASH DRIVE
1) Double click the Launchpad Removal Utility for MAC.
2) When prompted, click Next.
3) You will be asked if you want to restore your data, since you have already BACKED UP YOUR DATA, choose No.
4) Click the Format button.
5) The Launchpad will be removed and the drive will be formatted. It will give a progress bar and timer.
6) Click the Done button to close the program.

Enable or Disable Security
1) Double click the Password Enabler-Disabler utility. Depending on if a password has already been set, see below for the proper instructions.

So does this make the Mac understand the cruzer, or am I removing U3 and reinstalling the Mac version? Will I be able to go from PC at work to the Mac at home? Is there a version coming for the Mac Leopard? Message Edited by jmstevens2 on 06-24-2008 06:14 PM

1. The cruzer utilities for mac only allow you to remove U3 or use the password protection. the U3 LP will not function on MAC. 2. the only thing you would need this utility for is if your device is password protected. 3. I was told by sandisk support that there is no plans for a Leopard update.

When the post states not for Leopard 10.5; does that include being able to type in a password of a U3 Sandisk thumb drive on a Leopard 10.5 computer to see the files? Hopefully we can use our data on encrypted drives on Mac 10.5 OS. ~F

I would think so. By not supporting leopard 10.5, sandisk is essentially stating they are not selling for the current apple OS. That is a lost of customer. Is there a way to confirm the status of leopard 10.5? ~F

Wow. What a disappointment there's so little support for us Mac folks. Don't laugh, but, I'm new to flash drives. It had never dawned on me there would be so many platform-related conflicts wtih flash drives, compared with the seamless cross-platform use of older media types I'm accustomed to, such as zip drives. Now I'm sitting here with 2 unopened packs of SanDisk 8gb flash drives which I bought retail, just today. I chose these because I already had confidence in the SanDisk brand due to good past experiences with old model of SanDisk camera card reader. But now that I've read here of all these Mac problems (WHICH ARE NOT MENTIONED ON ITEM PACKAGES!!!), tomorrow I'll be returning this costly investment for refund - and will buy instead: any other rival brand that clearly prioritizes usability by Mac users. Also, in the future, I'm apt to avoid buying SanDisk brand ever again, just for all my inconvenience and time squandered on online review researching, retail buying, and eventually retail returning, these PC-centric devices in misleading packaging.

The drives work flawlessly on a Mac. There is no conflicts at all. You just happen to have a CD icon appear on the Desktop. All this post is for is to let people know that if they want that CD icon to go away, they can use these tools on MacOS 10.4.x to get rid of them. It is not a big deal. It is just a CD icon. Some people are just annoying and, even though they have 3,234,546 other icons on their Desktop, they get pissed because there is one that says U3 System that they have no control over.
