probably easiest to return it to the place of purchase and start again. but you could always contact sandisk tech support. if they cant fix it they will replace it. 866-sandisk.

i have uninstalled and reinstalled u3 more times than you can count. just run the uninstaller again and it should remove u3. if not make sure and try another computer.

I just want to vent my frustration on this U3 thing that has been just forced down on an unsuspecting customers throats. I can imagine some imaginative project manager sitting in a conference room with a few other business development types (cough MBAs cough) trying to justify their monthly pay by coming up with something like this. WHY NOT JUST ADD THE STUPID S/W into the flash drive partition for f*%$^%'s sake? why go through the trouble of creating a CD rom partition that doesnt allow anyone to delete the stupid thing and try to make it so foolproof? i know you guys have an uninstaller but do you realise that with so many systems out there it wont work on a few? like mine :smileysad: .

I launch the uninstaller from the red icon (after it auto installs itself yea :smileytongue:) and the uninstaller launches a new program (LaunchpadRemover or something) which keeps telling me that i need to insert a SanDisk U3 smart drive to continue. I just launched it from the U3 smart (really?) drive. I went to ubuntu and mkfs.vfated it, created partitions and deleted them, formatted it again, but no use. do the people who come up with this not realise that there are people out there who need to use flash drives for work???? like auditing and stuff where they need to plug it into clients PCs and not want a stupid exe INSTALLING S/W all over the place???? its a poor flash drive for gods sake, who told sandisk to try to convert a universally used device into a sandisk specific thing?

Mark, you sound really annoyed about the "hang around cruzers".  There is plenty of advice on this forum and others, about how to take care of the threesome problems you're having.  One other suggestion you could try...a HAMMER!

This U3 stuff is just awful. I hated it instantly and decided to remove it.

I tried the uninstaller. It didn't work. It just sat there saying "Please insert a U3 smart drive". It didn't matter, what I did (rebooting, unplugging, changing drive letters, etc, etc). Nothing worked. I read that there was a version of the uninstaller available from Sandisk. Possibly, the U3 uninstaller didn't like Sandisk stuff? Nope. Tried that, didn't work. I read through everything I could find on the internet. Nothing helped. I found a fair few other people with the same problem, but no solution.

And so out of sheer desperation, I unplugged my card reader and my external hard drives. Suddenly the uninstaller did work. I repeated everything just to check. Yes indeed, the uninstaller didn't like my card reader or my external hard drives. I hate U3. Hate it. It's badly programmed, badly implemented and badly designed. It's a good idea, but in its current for it doesn't really work properly. Worst of all, it comes enabled by default. Quite honestly, I would like to see this done the other way around. U3 should be opt-in not opt-out, especially when the opt-out method doesn't work.

Needless to say, I'm not going to be buying anything with U3 on it again and I'll warn all my friends off it as well. I'm even goign to be reluctant to buy Sandisk products again. Not because they're bad, but because something like U3 go through the whole corporate process without anyone saying "Hold on, this doesn't quite work, does it?"

U3 is Evil!

This forum did help....uninstall did not work, the uninstaller just hung in the background and never did or said anything.  I had to turn off my printer (with its card reader) then the uninstaller worked.

The devil's software!

bought it on recommendation, reasons were transporting data and possibly upgrade to vista and readyboost use.

it arrived

plugged it in

U3 ?

came here and see the horror stories.

downloaded uninstaller

clicked

hang time elongation............................................

exited prog via taskmanager

read a few posts.....hmmmmmmm card reader!!!

pulled it out of the USB socket.

clicked again

12 seconds later i now have a clean drive to use.

a small ray of hope for those in peril....it CAN be easily removed,if not this easy for you, then check those plugged in devices etc.

come on Sandisk..its 2009..we as a mass market hate..and i mean truly despise and loath being forced to do anything,if you told us not to scrath our backsides, within a day i can guarantee millions of doctors visits for a ripped rear from over scratching.

the same goes for forcing software on folk....we just dont like it,its our machine,WE decide what goes on it and when.

read a few posts..can you feel the hate ? :manvery-happy:

I HATE U3, and by extention I HATE SanDisk for creating it!

I purchased the USB key to move files from my home Linux machine to my work machine, not knowing about his U3 nonsense. When I plugged it into my work machine the beast started installing something. I immediately pulled the  key. This is the kind of thing that can get me fired! Thanks alot SanDisk!

How the heck do I uninstall it on my Linux machine? The frigging files are read-only! What's wrong with you guys?  Can't you come up with a Linux program that can take this excrement off my key? I can't do it at work because I can't run your software at work. (Who knows what else your software is sticking in there--there are rumors going around that you guys put other stuff  on the PC that doesn't get removed when you run the removal tool).

I think the correct solution is the garbage bin.

You'd think a company like SanDisk could handle something as simple as a USB flash drive. But NO-O-O-O! They have to IMPROVE it. Yeah, thanks a lot!!!
