Directions for Uninstalling / Removing the U3 LaunchPad

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING: BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA BEFORE YOU REMOVE U3

There are two ways to remove the U3 LaunchPad from your Cruzer.

First Method

The first way is to use the uninstall option in the LaunchPad itself.  To access this, simply plug the Cruzer in and follow these steps:

  • Click on the red square on your Desktop that says Cruzer, or click on the yellow and white U3 icon in the system try by the clock.
  • Click on Settings
  • Click on U3 LaunchPad Settings
  • Click on Uninstall on the left side menu
  • Follow the onscreen instructions.  You may choose the option to back up and restore your data, but you should also have already done this manually, just in case something happens during the uninstall.

Second Method
Download the U3 Remover tool. Once download run the application.

Hi, I just bought a cruzer titanium but failed to remove the u3. The removal tool said "Can only remove ONE U3-drive. Please remove the additional drive and try again" (Translated by me from german). But any attempt to "remove" one of the two drives/volumes in Windows Explorer failes, I always get the same message from the remover tool. What can I do now?

you probably have a memory card reader or a printer with card slots connected to the computer. the removal tool will see the card reader as an additional u3 device. if your card reader is external just unplug it. if it is internal you will need to go to the device manager under disk drives and disable the card slots. same for a printer with card slots. once u3 is removed you can use device manager to re-enable the card slots.

i for one really love the lauchpad and all the programs avaliable

When you say "Back up all your data" what data are you referring to (eg. Program Files, My documents, what)?  I bought this to backup my "My documents" folder.

I just bought this thing today and didn't understand when I clicked "yes" on keeping the U3 capability, that the thing would fill up (6.66GB) with something and now it's unuseable as a backup for files.  I haven't figured out a way to open it to see what the 6.66GB is.

I sure hope someone can help me.

back up all your data refers to the data that is on the drive that you want to keep. if all your data is still on your computer then you have nothing to worry about.

on a side note u3 does not automatically copy anything to the drive. u3 is just an application platform that allows you to run specialized u3 applications from the drive. are you sure you did not let windows media player sync to it?
